Thank you for your interest in becoming a board member of the D.C. Capital Area Branch of the International Dyslexia Association (DCIDA)!
We are a dedicated and dynamic team of educators, parents, speech-language pathologists, advocates, retirees, and professionals from a variety of backgrounds. Together, we work to empower our community with the knowledge, tools, and strategies needed to support individuals with dyslexia and other reading differences.
Through engaging events like symposiums, book studies, resource fairs, and virtual workshops, we advance our mission: to build a brighter future for all individuals who struggle with dyslexia and related reading challenges—helping them lead fuller, more successful lives with access to the resources they deserve.
We are an inclusive, all-volunteer board, and we welcome individuals from all walks of life. Whether you’re an experienced advocate or just passionate about making a difference, we invite you to bring your voice and energy to our team. No prior board experience is required—just your commitment to supporting our mission!

Board Member Responsibilities
As a member of the DCIDA Board, you’ll play a key role in advancing our mission and strengthening our community. Board members are expected to:

- Maintain an active membership with the International Dyslexia Association (IDA)
- Attend monthly virtual board meetings
- Actively serve on at least one committee
- Participate in DCIDA-sponsored events and programs
- Commit to a three-year term of service
- Support and engage in branch fundraising efforts

- October 31st, 2025: Applications are due
- November – The Nominations Committee will review applications.
- Early December – Applicants will be notified of their application status.
- Mid-December – New board members will be voted in by the current DCIDA board.
